NEW DELHI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least eight schools in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu Thursday received a bomb threat, prompting authorities to rush police teams and bomb disposal squads to these educational institutions, officials said.

The threats received over emails were sent to schools in Tiruchirappalli district, about 333 km southwest of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The emails from the unknown senders sent a tizzy among the administration of these schools, who alerted the police.

Immediately the bomb detection and disposal squads along with the dog squads were rushed to these schools to conduct a thorough checking. However, nothing suspicious was found.

Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the threat. The police are trying to identify the sender of these emails and track the Internet Protocol address from where they have been generated.

On Wednesday Hanumangarh railway station of Rajasthan received a letter threatening bomb blasts at several stations and religious places in the state and neighboring Madhya Pradesh.

The incident is the latest among a series of hoax bomb threats that have been sent to schools, airports, shopping malls and hospitals in the country, including Delhi, in the past months.
