OTTAWA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The NATO Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) on Wednesday officially opened its North American regional office in Halifax, Nova Scotia in east Canada.

Canada is supporting the opening and operating of this office with an initial investment of 26.6 million Canadian dollars (19.7 million U.S. dollars) over six years, Canada's National Defence said in a press release.

NATO DIANA was created to help develop dual-use technologies that address challenges affecting security and defence. It brings together the best and brightest innovators from key sectors across the alliance to help NATO maintain its technological edge, the release said.

Through NATO DIANA, innovators can access alliance-wide resources including grant funding, commercial advice, and other acceleration services to adapt their solutions for defence and security needs, the release added.

NATO DIANA is coordinated by regional offices, except for this one in Halifax, home to Canada's Atlantic naval fleet, there is another one in London, Britain, along with a regional hub in Tallinn, Estonia.

In March 2024, NATO DIANA announced the addition of 11 accelerators and 92 test sites to its growing network which brought the NATO DIANA network to 20 accelerators and 180 test sites.
