JERUSALEM/TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said in a statement on Tuesday that Iran fired about 100 missiles at Israel in the evening.

Some of the missiles were intercepted by the Arrow aerial defense system, Israel's state-owned Kan TV news reported.

Sirens blared in Jerusalem as local residents sought shelter during the attack, Xinhua correspondents witnessed. Loud explosions were also heard.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties, while the Magen David Adom rescue service said a building was damaged in northern Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps claimed that it had targeted Israel with dozens of ballistic missiles, Iran's state-run IRIB TV reported.
