SHANGHAI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port announced on Monday that the severity of their striker Wu Lei's injury remains unknown.
The domestic league leading scorer of this season was stretchered off after a collision with an opposition player in the first half of the game between Shanghai Port and Qingdao West Coast last Saturday.
"Wu Lei could not hold on after being given a knock in the side. He was then whisked by an ambulance to the hospital for a check-up," Shanghai Port's statement read.
"After two expert consultations, no sign of apparent rib fracture was detected, but the player felt acute pain around the wounded area with breathing difficulty. His conditions need further examination," the statement said.
The Shanghai club added in the statement that the medical check-up that Wu took also showed symptoms of a recurrence of his knee injury.
The Chinese national side will convene in the coming days for their World Cup qualifier away against Australia on October 10, and it is unclear if Wu could recover in time for the match. ■
