TOKYO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Japan's industrial output dropped 3.3 percent in August from a month earlier, government data showed on Monday.
The seasonally adjusted index of production at factories and mines in the reporting month stood at 99.7 against the 2020 base of 100, preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.
The ministry attributed the decline to the production decrease in the automotive, the electrical as well as the information and communication machinery industries.
The index measuring the production of automobiles plunged 10.6 percent on month, largely attributed to factory shutdowns caused by typhoon.
Based on a poll of manufacturers, the ministry expects output to grow in September and October, but also warns of continued uncertainties in production activities. ■
