MANILA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Heart disease, cancer and stroke are top three causes of death in the Philippines in 2023, according to preliminary data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Thursday.
"These were also the leading causes of death in 2022," the agency said.
From January to December 2023, the agency found that ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death, with 127,371 cases or 18.7 percent of the total deaths in the country.
The agency said that neoplasm or cancer came in the second with 72,855 deaths or 10.7 percent of the total deaths.
Stroke was the third leading cause of fatalities, with 68,708 cases or 10.1 percent. ■
