TOKYO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Strange odor has been detected in tap water in some parts of the Sumida and Minato wards in Tokyo and the city's water bureau is investigating the cause of the smell.
Residents in parts of the two wards noticed a smell resembling thinner in their tap water on Tuesday, leading to 420 households being advised not to drink the water.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Waterworks Bureau announced Wednesday that the smell dissipated after flushing the water pipes and subsequent tests showed that the water quality was safe and posed no health risks.
Investigations into the cause of the odor in these two areas, which have different water distribution systems, are ongoing.
Currently, no harmful effects from the water were reported, the bureau added. ■
