JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said in a statement Monday evening that it carried out "a targeted strike in Beirut."
Lebanon's Al-Jadeed local TV channel reported that the Israeli airstrike targeted the Bir al-Abed area in Dahiye, Beirut's southern suburbs, targeting an official in Hezbollah.
Israel's state-owned Kan TV news reported the strike was aimed at killing Ali Karki, a senior Hezbollah commander.
Photos circulating on social media showed the airstrike hit a residential building in the Dahiye.
Karki's condition and the condition of other people in the building remained unknown. ■
