TUNIS, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian maritime guards rescued 28 undocumented immigrants from a sinking boat off the eastern coastal province of Monastir on Wednesday, the National Guard said.
The rescued migrants, including a woman and her two children, were given necessary aid and transported to nearby ports for further medical care, registration, and legal processing, the National Guard said on its Facebook page, with no additional details provided.
Thousands of undocumented immigrants attempt to cross the Mediterranean every year through Tunisia, one of the main access points to Europe through irregular channels. ■
