SHANGHAI, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Instituto Cervantes in Shanghai, Spain's second cultural center in China, was inaugurated on Tuesday.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez attended the launch ceremony and noted that Spain is one of the European Union's most active countries in the area of Chinese language study.

Lu Jingsheng, an honorary professor at the Shanghai International Studies University, said that Spanish education in China has a history of 70 years, and stressed that the establishment of Instituto Cervantes in Shanghai demonstrates the deepened cultural cooperation between China and the West.

Inma Gonzalez Puy, director of the Shanghai center, expressed the hope that the center will provide a new window for Chinese and Western cultural exchanges, not only through textbooks, but also through various cultural activities and experiences.

Luis Garcia Montero, director of Instituto Cervantes, said the opening of Instituto Cervantes in Shanghai will bring mutual understanding and cooperation to a new level.
