LIMA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Luiz Diaz struck a late equalizer as Colombia salvaged a 1-1 away draw with Peru in their World Cup qualifier here on Friday.
The hosts went ahead in the 68th minute when Alexander Callens bundled home from the edge of the six-yard box after Sergio Pena's cross took a deflection.
But Diaz put his side back on level terms shortly after by heading home at the far post after James Rodriguez's corner was flicked on by Jhon Duran
The result extended Colombia's unbeaten run in the South American zone qualifiers to seven games and they remained third in the 10-team standings, five points behind leaders Argentina. Peru are last, having yet to win a game in these qualifiers.
Earlier, Rodrygo struck a first-half winner as Brazil ended a four-game winless streak in World Cup qualifiers with 1-0 home victory over Ecuador on Friday.
The 23-year-old put his side ahead on the half-hour when he controlled Lucas Paqueta's pass with his back to goal and skipped around his opponent before lashing a low 20-yard drive into the far corner.
Brazil are now fourth in the group with 10 points from seven outings while Ecuador are sixth, two points further back.
In Friday's only other South American qualifier, Uruguay were held to a goalless home draw by Paraguay in the last international appearance of Celeste striker Luis Suarez. ■
