HONG KONG, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 hit Auckland Islands, New Zealand at 1424 GMT on Friday, the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 49.10 degrees south latitude and 164.44 degrees east longitude. ■
