NANCHANG, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Zhu Congjiu, a former senior political advisor in east China's Zhejiang Province, on Friday stood trial on charges of bribery-related crimes at a court in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Zhu, formerly a member of the leading Party members group of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairperson of the committee, was accused of accepting money and valuables worth over 105 million yuan (about 14.8 million U.S. dollars).
Between 2002 and 2022, Zhu allegedly took advantage of his various positions, including as president of the Shanghai Stock Exchange and vice governor of Zhejiang, to benefit others in matters such as company listing, financing and loans, and enterprise operation, according to the prosecutors.
During the trial, prosecutors, the defendant and his defense counsel cross-examined the evidence and gave their respective accounts, according to a court statement.
Zhu pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.
The court said the verdict will be announced in due course. ■
