BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Pablo de Blasis struck late as Gimnasia stayed in touch with Argentina's Primera Division leaders on Monday with a 1-0 home victory over Argentinos Juniors.
De Blasis put his side ahead in the 90th minute by converting from the penalty spot after Alan Rodriguez brought down Leo Morales with a rash challenge.
The visitors' hopes of equalizing all but vanished two minutes later when defender Jonathan Galvan was shown a second yellow card for violent conduct.
The result lifted Gimnasia to ninth, seven points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield, while Argentinos Juniors dropped to 22nd in the 28-team standings.
In Monday's only other Primera Division match, Godoy Cruz were held to a 1-1 home draw by Central Cordoba. ■
