China's shuttlers advance to finals in singles, mixed doubles at South Korea Open

SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's players Lu Guangzu, Wang Zhiyi, and Guo Xinwa/Li Qian advanced to the men's singles, women's singles, and mixed doubles finals, respectively, at the BWF South Korea Open Badminton Championships on Saturday.

In the men's singles semifinals, Lu lost the first game against Lee Cheuk Yiu of China's Hong Kong before winning the next two games to reach the finals. He will face Chinese Taipei shuttler Lee Chia Hao on Sunday.

In the women's singles, Wang Zhiyi saved two match points in the deciding game to defeat host player Sim Yu-jin. In the finals, Wang will compete against another host player, Kim Ga-eun.

The Chinese duo Guo Xinwa/Li Qian defeated the third-seeded South Korean pair Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun 2-1 in the mixed doubles semifinals. Another Chinese pair, Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi, lost to Malaysian players Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei.

In the men's doubles semifinals, Indonesian duo Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana beat their compatriots Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and will compete against the South Korean pair Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae, who defeated the Chinese Taipei duo Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin.

Malaysian shuttlers Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan knocked out the top-seeded South Korean pair Baek Ha-na/Lee So-hee to compete for the women's doubles title against another South Korean pair, Jeong Na-eun/Kim Hye-jeong.
