MADRID, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Luis de la Fuente introduced some new faces on Friday when he announced his first squad since leading Spain to success in the European Championship this summer.
Spain play away to Serbia and Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League and De la Fuente has handed a debut call-up to Valencia midfielder Pepelu.
He has also recalled Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza (whose only cap was in 2021), Villarreal winger Yeremi Pino and Aston Villa defender Pau Torres, as well as Aleix Garcia, who was in the preliminary squad for the European Championship, but missed the final cut.
The coach has also been affected by the decision of veteran Sevilla right back Jesus Navas to retire from international football, while Alvaro Morata is injured.
Rodrigo Hernandez is suspended for Spain's visit to Belgrade on September 5 after UEFA gave him and Morata a one-game suspension for chants about Gibraltar during the European Championship celebrations, but will play in Geneva against Switzerland on September 8.
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has also been called up as first choice keeper, as Unai Simon recovers from a wrist operation that could sideline him until the end of the year. ■
