JERUSALEM, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israel will invest 35 million shekels (about 9.6 million U.S. dollars) to boost hi-tech development in the country's war-affected northern and southern regions, the Israel Innovation Authority said Wednesday.

The funding, allocated together with other government bodies, aims to motivate hi-tech companies to establish new branches and hire local talents in the Negev desert and the Galilee region to promote regional development and economic growth while addressing nationwide disparities, it said in a statement.

Under the program, companies can receive financial support for practical training for inexperienced employees and for on-the-job training by experienced ones for mentoring new hires, it said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Ministry of Economy announced the launch of a program to facilitate the setup and relocation of high-salary, knowledge-intensive operations for businesses in industrial and hi-tech sectors within national priority areas.
