ACCRA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- An official confirmed on Monday that at least five people were killed and nine others injured in a road accident along the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway in southern Ghana.
Abdul Wasiu Hudu, spokesman for the Central Regional Division of the Ghana National Service (GNFS), told Xinhua late Monday that the accident involving three vehicles occurred on Sunday at Eduagyei, a community in the Central Region.
Hudu said an articulated truck on its way from Takoradi city attempted to overtake a tipper truck in a curve and collided head-on with an oncoming bus, leading to the loss of lives and injuries.
"When we got to the scene yesterday, we saw five bodies, which we conveyed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where the physician on duty pronounced them dead," the GNFS official added.
"There were also nine persons in critical condition, and we conveyed them to the same hospital for treatment," he said, adding that as of Monday morning, one of the injured had been discharged.
Police investigations are still underway. ■
