HELSINKI, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Finnish government launched a national campaign against racism on Tuesday, as part of its anti-racism drive to soothe the public's complaints.

To promote equality, the "Action, not only words" campaign calls on communities, companies, and organizations to take concrete steps toward building a "racism-free Finland." Focusing on eradicating structural racism, the campaign encourages practical measures within organizations.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stressed the need for collective action, calling for the involvement of the entire society.

The government's efforts include raising awareness, improving communication, expanding anonymous recruitment, and promoting inclusivity. Organizations can join the campaign through an online platform, where they can set goals and implement measures to fight racism and promote equality.

The campaign will continue until the end of the government's term, with ongoing opportunities for organizations to contribute and report their progress.

The anti-racism campaign is viewed as a response to the Orpo cabinet's commitment to equality, made last fall.

In early September last year, thousands of people gathered in Helsinki to protest against racism and the government's response to the issue as media reports revealed anti-immigration statements made by some leading Finns Party politicians in the past. The racism scandal led to the resignation of one of the party's ministers.
