ISTANBUL, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Gold prices in Türkiye surged to a historic high of over 2,800 Turkish liras (82.30 U.S. dollars) per gram, fueled by the ongoing turbulence in the Middle East.

In the early morning hours, one gram of gold was priced in the 2,750-lira range, according to canlidoviz.com, an online platform that tracks exchange rates and gold prices, before approaching the 2,820-lira mark.

"On the first trading day of the week, gram gold set a new record," said Resat Yilmaz, an experienced professional in the gold industry in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar.

The ongoing crisis in the Middle East is causing significant disruptions in national markets, including Türkiye, and is a key factor behind the recent surge in gold prices, said Yilmaz.

He added that the fluctuations in the international gold market, along with the depreciation of the lira against the dollar, may contribute to a further increase in Türkiye's gold prices.
