BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- 20th Century Studios' sci-fi thriller "Alien: Romulus" remained at the top of the Chinese mainland's daily box office on Sunday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
The movie, which is the seventh installment of the successful "Alien" franchise, grossed over 44.96 million yuan (about 6.32 million U.S. dollars) on the day.
It tells the story of a group of young space colonists who encounter the universe's most terrifying life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
Domestic crime drama "Untouchable," featuring comic star Shen Teng, ranked second on the chart with a revenue of 21.78 million yuan on its third day of screening.
The domestic crime film "Go for Broke" came in third on Sunday, earning 18.68 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Sunday hit 164.72 million yuan. ■
