SOFIA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian President Rumen Radev tasked the current caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev on Thursday with forming a new caretaker government.

Glavchev has been serving as the caretaker prime minister since April 9. Following the snap parliamentary elections on June 9, the Balkan country failed to elect a regular cabinet. According to the Bulgarian constitution, a new caretaker government is compulsory before the next parliamentary elections.

Glavchev was not Radev's first choice to lead the next caretaker government, so the president first nominated Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, who previously served as president of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, as the new caretaker prime minister on Aug. 9. However, this Monday, Grancharova-Kozhareva's proposal of the caretaker government lineup was refused by the president, who later withdrew her nomination.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the president's office, Radev has required Glavchev to carefully consider changes in a new Council of Ministers, and expects to receive the lineup of the new caretaker government by Aug. 26.

If Glavchev can successfully form a caretaker government, the date of early parliamentary elections would be on Oct. 27, Radev said.
