COLOMBO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Cabinet of Ministers have approved a basic salary increase for all public servants from January 2025, the President's Media Division (PMD) said on Thursday, quoting Udaya Seneviratna, chairman of the Expert Committee on Public service salary disparities.
The PMD said the salary increase for the lower grades will start from 24 percent, and this will increase the salary of the lowest paid government servant to 55, 000 rupees (about 183 U.S. dollars).
The PMD added that other grades will see their basic salaries increase between 24 percent to 50 percent, which are based on qualifications, experience and current roles.
Seneviratna said the cabinet has also decided to increase the cost of living allowance to 25,000 rupees (about 83 dollars) for all public servants starting January 2025.
This decision was taken due to current inflation and economic conditions, he said. ■
