GAZA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 Palestinians were killed and some others injured in Israeli airstrikes on central and southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said on Monday.
An Israeli fighter jet targeted a house south of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip with a missile, destroying it, according to Palestinian security sources.
Medical sources told Xinhua that the airstrike killed three people, while several others were injured and transported to Al-Aqsa Hospital in the city.
In the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, four people were killed in an Israeli raid targeting a house, according to medical sources.
In addition, four Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a house in Abasan town, east of Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the killing of journalist Ibrahim Mohareb by Israeli forces in the Hamed area, west of Khan Younis, on Sunday.
The syndicate's statement described the targeting of Mohareb and a group of journalists with him while performing their duties as a "crime within the framework of Israel's systematic targeting of journalists," noting that the Israeli attacks have claimed more than 12 percent of Gaza's journalists.
With Mohareb's death, the number of journalists killed in Gaza has risen to 169 since the ongoing war began on Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Gaza-based media office.
Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a Hamas' rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 were taken hostage.
In the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 40 people and wounded 134 others, bringing the total death toll to 40,139 and injuries to 92,743 since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October 2023, the Gaza-based health authorities said in a press statement. ■
