NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.5 percent to 102.464 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1021 U.S. dollars from 1.0978 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2944 U.S. dollars from 1.2862 U.S. dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 147.67 Japanese yen, lower than 149.01 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.8670 Swiss francs from 0.8723 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3689 Canadian dollars from 1.3724 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 10.4409 Swedish kronor from 10.5347 Swedish kronor. ■
