BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Japanese animation "Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram" led Chinese mainland's daily box office on Friday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
The newest installment in Japan's ever-popular "Detective Conan" animation franchise grossed approximately 46.15 million yuan (about 6.46 million U.S. dollars) on its release day.
It was followed by sci-fi thriller "Alien: Romulus" that made debut both in the United States and on the Chinese mainland on Friday, raking in about 41.01 million yuan.
Domestic crime film "Go for Broke" came in third with 29.7 million yuan in revenue on the day.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Friday was 168.13 million yuan. ■
