LISBON, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's tourism accommodation sector recorded a revenue of nearly 2.8 billion euros (3.02 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months of this year, up 12.3 percent year-on-year, according to data released on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Both resident and non-resident overnight stays contributed to the rise, with non-resident stays showing stronger growth, which registered a growth of 5.8 percent year-on-year. The data also reported the total overnight stays at 35.5 million.

Cities like Lisbon and Porto were major contributors to this success. The month of June alone saw an especially strong performance, attracting 3 million guests and nearly 8 million overnight stays, generating 698 million euros (753 million dollars) in total revenue.
