RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Argentine side Lanus recovered from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 away win over Ecuador's LDU Quito in the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 on Wednesday.
Alex Arce gave the hosts an early lead, but Gonzalo Perez equalized in the 23rd minute before Marcelino Moreno doubled the advantage on the stroke of halftime.
The result means Lanus need only a draw in next Wednesday's return leg in Argentina to reach the competition's last eight.
Earlier, Joaquin Varela struck twice as Colombian side Independiente Medellin drew 2-2 at Chile's Palestino.
Varela put the visitors ahead on the stroke of halftime before goals from Ivan Ramiro and Nicolas Linares in quick succession swung the momentum in Palestino's favor.
Varela equalized in the 93rd minute to set up a tantalizing second leg in Medellin.
In Wednesday's only other Copa Sudamericana clash, Argentina's Rosario Central were held to a 1-1 home draw by Brazilian side Fortaleza. ■
