YANGON, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Schools in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady region, also known as delta region, which was affected by severe floods, have reopened, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Wednesday.

Out of 136 schools that were closed in Kyaunggon township of Ayeyarwady region, 94 schools reopened on Tuesday, the report said.

Flooding caused by the rising level of the Daka River and heavy rains forced the closure of the schools in the township, the report said.

Floods affected many townships in Ayeyarwady region in July and caused damage to paddy fields, displaced thousands of people, and disrupted transportation.
