ISTANBUL, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Established around 190 BC, Hierapolis is famous for its thermal springs and stunning white travertine terraces, formed by the calcium deposits left by the hot mineral waters.
The city was a major center of culture and commerce during the Roman period and features impressive structures such as a large theater, a vast necropolis, and the grand Temple of Apollo.
