COLOMBO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan workers remitted 3.71 billion U.S. dollars in the first seven months of 2024, a 10.3 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the central bank.
In July, remittances stood at 566.8 million dollars, up from 541.0 million dollars a year earlier.
Sri Lanka's external sector performance in the first half of 2024 remained positive due to higher inflows in the form of workers' remittances and earnings from tourism, the central bank said last week.
Workers' remittances are among Sri Lanka's top foreign revenue earners. ■
