LILLE, France, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Mathias Gidsel delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a game-high 11 goals as Denmark overpowered Germany 39-26 in the Paris Olympic men's handball final on Sunday.
This victory marks Denmark's second Olympic gold in men's handball, following their triumph at the Rio 2016 Games.
Denmark entered the final with an unblemished record, having won all seven of their previous matches, while Germany had suffered one defeat, losing to Croatia in the third round.
Denmark started the match with a blistering offensive display, particularly on the left wing. Magnus Jacobsen led a 6-0 run that propelled Denmark to a commanding 12-5 lead within the first 15 minutes. By halftime, Denmark had extended their advantage to 21-12.
After the break, Denmark maintained their dominance, steadily increasing their lead. With a 38-24 cushion and just five minutes remaining, the Danish team could begin celebrating their victory even before the final whistle.
In the bronze medal match, Spain narrowly edged out Slovenia 23-22 to claim third place. ■
