PARIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's Karlos Ma Nasar broke the world records for the clean and jerk and total lift to clinch the gold in the men's 89kg category at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

The 20-year-old successfully completed all five of his attempts on the day and chose to forgo his final attempt after having secured the gold medal.

He led the field with a snatch of 180kg and a clean and jerk of 224kg. After easily lifting 213kg in his first clean and jerk attempt, Nasar, having already clinched the gold, opted to challenge the world record.

He succeeded with a 224kg clean and jerk, totaling 404kg to win the championship.

Colombia's Yeison Lopez claimed silver with a total of 390kg, while Italy's Antonino Pizzolato took bronze with 384kg.
