PARIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sha'Carri Richardson ran a scintillating final leg as the United States won the women's 4x100m relay final at the Paris Olympics on Friday.
Richardson, who took the baton with her team in fourth place, completed her split in 10.09 seconds as the U.S. prevailed in 41.78 seconds.
Britain took silver, 0.07 seconds further back and Germany claimed bronze, 0.19 seconds behind the U.S..
The U.S. foursome, which also included Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry and Gabrielle Thomas, resumed the country's supremacy in the women's 4x100m relay following a silver medal in Tokyo three years ago.
The U.S. has won 12 gold medals in the event and 17 overall.
"The moment we realized we won was a phenomenal feeling for all of us," Richardson said.
"I just remember trusting my third leg, trusting Gabby [Thomas] and knowing that she's going to put this thing in my hand no matter what, and to leave my best on the track. I was very comfortable with these ladies."
Thomas returned the compliment to her teammate, saying she felt confident Richardson would secure the gold medal.
"Passing the baton to Sha'Carri is very special, she is so fast," she said. "I felt very proud and very grateful. We got the gold." ■
