JERUSALEM, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Israel held a drill on Tuesday to prepare for the distribution of emergency food packages in the event of a conflict escalation, according to the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry.
The exercise, named "Bread of the Land," involved inspecting the inventory and readiness of food packages stored in the emergency branches of Israel's major supermarket chains. It also tested the methods for transporting these packages to distribution centers as needed.
Israel has over 420 emergency supermarket branches stocked with tens of thousands of packages containing food and other basic consumer products, ready for immediate distribution to residents unable to leave their homes. The packages include items such as bread, crackers, UHT milk, coffee, tea, sugar, baby food, canned vegetables, tuna, and other essentials.
The ministry emphasized that there is currently no shortage of food in the warehouses, and there is no need for the public to purchase more than what is required for a few days. ■
