PARIS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. men's team was eliminated from the 3x3 basketball competition on Sunday at the Paris Olympics, while Lithuania and host nation France advanced to the semifinals.
China also bowed out of the tournament finishing 1-6 in pool play.
In the night's finale at Place de la Concorde, Timothe Vergiat of France nailed down a two-pointer with seven seconds left on the clock as the hosts beat world No.1 Serbia 22-19.
France's Jules Rambaut scored a team-high eight points and Vergiat added six. Strahinja Stojacic scored eight points for Serbia, and Mihailo Vasic added four.
In another game in the play-in round, Evaldas Dziaugys and Sarunas Vingelis shared a game-high nine points to help third seed Lithuania cruise past eighth seed Poland 21-15.
For Poland, Michal Sokolowski dominated in the paint to score a team-high eight points, and Przemyslaw Zamojski added five despite a struggling one from ten attempts behind the arc.
The Chinese side of Zhao Jiaren, Lu Wenbo, Zhu Yuanbo and Zhang Ning averaged 15.3 points in seven pool games, but won only one game. After losing to France 21-12 on Sunday, China was eliminated from the tournament.
The men's semifinals and final will be played on August 5 with Lativa taking on France, and the Netherlands facing off against Lithuania. ■
