KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait on Thursday denied the allegation that it allowed the use of its lands and bases as a launchpad for attacking targets in neighboring countries.
Colonel Hamad Al-Saqr, spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, said in a press release that the general staff of the Kuwaiti army affirmed it has not and will not permit the use or violation of its airspace or territory as a launching point for aggression against any friendly countries, the Kuwait News Agency reported.
This comes a day after Iraq blamed the international coalition forces fighting the Islamic State for an attack on Wednesday on the Hashd Shaabi forces, also known as Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), in Babil province, south of the capital Baghdad.
"The international coalition forces committed a blatant attack on Iraqi security agency sites in northern Babil province, using fighter jets that came from beyond the borders, resulting in the deaths of several PMF personnel and injuries of others," Iraqi military spokesman Yahya Rasoul said in a statement.
Meanwhile, an Iraqi militia known as Kataib Hezbollah said in a separate statement that the U.S. drones were launched from neighboring Kuwait, while calling on the Iraqi government to take decisive action to end the presence of the U.S.-led coalition forces and urging Iraqi lawmakers to adopt a clear stance on expelling American troops from Iraq. ■
