MADRID, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- La Liga club Real Sociedad has confirmed the signing of Croatia midfielder Luka Sucic from Red Bull Salzburg.
21-year-old Sucic leaves Salzburg after making over 128 appearances and scoring 18 goals, after he joined the Austrian club as a 13-year-old.
A creative midfielder with an eye for goal, Sucic formed part of the Croatian squad in the recent European championships and arrives at the San Sebastian-based club with the view to strengthening their options in midfield.
"I am grateful to the club and all the people in Salzburg for what I have been able to experience. It was an incredible time, and I have so many great memories, also because we won an insane amount of titles."
"I have been here for eight years. I came to Salzburg as a boy and am leaving as a man. Although I am looking forward to my new club, it is very difficult right now to find the right words," said Sucic in declarations on the Red Bull Salzburg website.
The arrival of the midfielder at Real Sociedad is likely to open the door for the departure of Mikel Merino, who is in the last year of his contract and has not signed a new deal.
Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have been reported as likely destinations for Merino. ■
