Sri Lanka's foreign exchange earnings surpass imports by 586 mln USD in June 2024

COLOMBO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's foreign exchange earnings in June 2024 from exports, remittances and gross services, exceeded imports by 586 million U.S. dollars, latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) showed.

Exports for June were 1.08 billion dollars, remittances were 519.6 million dollars, and gross services, including tourism, were 436.2 million dollars, the CBSL data showed.

Imports were about 1.45 billion dollars in June, according to the CBSL data.

CBSL data also showed the exchange rate of the local currency rupee against the U.S. dollar has appreciated by 7.1 percent in the first seven months of 2024.

Meanwhile, gross official reserves increased to 5.7 billion dollars at the end of June 2024, from 4.4 billion dollars at the end of December 2023.
