BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, July 30 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli drone launched three missiles on Tuesday evening near Hezbollah's Shura Council position in the Dahieh suburbs south of Beirut, resulting in one fatality and 17 injuries, according to local Al-Jadeed TV.

Among the injured, six are children, Al-Jadeed TV reported, adding the attack has caused extensive damage to the neighborhood.

Shortly after the attack, the Israeli military confirmed a "targeted strike" in Beirut aimed at eliminating a Hezbollah commander. Israeli military alleged the commander was responsible for firing a rocket that caused the deaths of 12 children in Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday.

Israeli state-owned Kan TV identified the targeted commander as Hajj Muhassin, overseeing Hezbollah's precision missiles project and serving as a military advisor to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The current status of the commander remains unclear.

However, Lebanese media reported that the attack was intended to target Fouad Shokor, a military consultant to Nasrallah, but missed.

Israel had previously warned of potential military action against Hezbollah following the Majdal Shams incident. Hezbollah denied any involvement in the attack.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, after Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel in solidarity with a previous Hamas attack. Israel responded with heavy artillery fire towards southeastern Lebanon.
