PARIS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Takanori Nagase of Japan became the first judoka to successfully defend the men's 81kg title at the Olympic Games, while Prisca Awiti Alcaraz won Mexico's first Olympic medal in judo here on Tuesday.
In the men's 81kg event, world No. 2 Tato Grigalashvili from Georgia, who had tied for fifth on his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, set up a final showdown against defending champion Nagase.
The final witnessed Nagase beat Grigalashvili within three minutes by a clear ippon, earning his fourth Olympic medal and Japan's third gold in judo at the Paris Olympics.
World No. 3 Lee Joon-hwan of South Korea earned his first Olympic medal by defeating world No. 1 Matthias Casse of Belgium, sharing third place with Somon Makhmadbekov of Tajikistan.
In the women's 57kg final, the Olympic debutant Andreja Leski of Slovenia defeated dark horse Alcaraz, while defending champion Clarisse Agbegnenou of France shared the bronze medal with Kosovo's Laura Fazliu. ■
