PARIS, July 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's men's archery team eased past France to defend their title at the Paris Olympics on Monday, while France still gained the team's first-ever Olympic medal in the event on home soil.
China made all the way to the bronze medal match but lost 6-2 to Turkey, with the latter settling for the bronze medal.
South Korea's men advanced to the final after impressive victories over Japan and China in the quarterfinal and semifinal, while France defeated Italy and Turkey to reach the final showdown.
In the gold medal match, France performed consistently well, with all 18 arrows in three rounds scoring no fewer than nine points. However, South Korea showed their superiority, shooting 59 out of 60 in the second and third rounds.
"We have competed together many times in other international competitions. We have really good teamwork and we have trust in the team," said Kim Woo-jin of South Korea.
"I'm proud of myself and my team. We are very content with our performance today and we have given all our full strength," said 17-year-old Baptiste Addis, the youngest archer on France's team.
China's trio of Wang Yan, Kao Wenchao and Li Zhongyuan defeated Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal but fell short against South Korea in the semifinal, missing out on the gold medal match. ■
