KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian stock exchange Bursa Malaysia has reported higher earnings in the second quarter ended June 30, 2024, amid higher revenue.

The firm said in a statement on Tuesday that its net profit for the quarter rose 5.51 percent year on year to 80.45 million ringgit (17.4 million U.S. dollars), while its revenue jumped 38.27 percent to 199.94 million ringgit.

As for the first half, the firm's net profit increased by 17.41 percent year on year to 155.48 million ringgit, while its revenue grew 28.58 percent year on year to 387.14 million ringgit.

Bursa Malaysia chairman Abdul Wahid Omar said the strong performance in the first half was resulting from improved liquidity and market sentiments on the back of increased optimism in Malaysia's economic progress and plans.

"With Malaysia's economic conditions anticipated to remain favorable, we are optimistic that strong results will be reflected in the Exchange's performance for the second half of the year," he noted.

According to him, the board has revised its profit before tax headline key performance indicator (KPI) higher to a range of 361 million ringgit to 379 million ringgit from the previously announced range of 293 million ringgit to 323 million ringgit.

"We are optimistic on achieving our other headline KPIs for the financial year ending 2024," he added. (1 ringgit equals 0.215 USD)
