YUSHU, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The 6,300-kilometer Yangtze River, the longest river in China and the third longest in the world, has three sources, namely the Tuotuo River, the Damqu River in the south and the Qumar River in the north.
Tuotuo River originates from the snow-covered Geladandong, the main peak of the Tanggula Mountains in Qinghai Province, and flows through Tanggulashan Township of Golmud City where Qinghai-Xizang Railway and Qinghai-Xizang Highway run through.
Chinese scientists embarked on an expedition on July 20 to investigate the water resources and ecological environment in the headwater regions of the Yangtze and Lancang rivers.■
