BEIRUT, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Two members of Hezbollah were killed and three others wounded on Monday in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a civilian car and a motorcycle in southern Lebanon, according to Hezbollah and Lebanese military sources.

The military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that an Israeli drone fired two air-to-ground missiles at a civilian car and a motorcycle that were traveling on the main road linking the villages of Mays al-Jabal and Chaqra in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, killing two people and wounding three others, including a child.

The two dead, both Hezbollah members, were Abbas Muhammad Salameh from the southern municipality of Khirbet Selm, and Abbas Fadi Hijazi from the village of Majdal Selm in the eastern sector of the border area in southern Lebanon, sources said.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Monday afternoon, targeting a house in the southeastern village of Houla, leading to its destruction.

The village of Mays al-Jabal is also being subjected to Israeli machine gun fire and artillery shelling, according to military sources.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas's attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
