BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The People's Liberation Army Navy's Ark Peace hospital ship vividly demonstrates the navy's efforts to implement the Global Security Initiative and build a maritime community of a shared future, a Chinese military spokesperson said Thursday.
Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a media conference. The ship is carrying out "Mission Harmony-2024," providing humanitarian medical services for its destination countries.
During the mission, the hospital ship provided medical treatment to nearly 1,200 people per day in the Seychelles and welcomed a baby born on the ship in Tanzania. Zhang said it is now heading for Madagascar.
Apart from providing free diagnoses and treatment to local people, the ship also sent medical teams to local hospitals, communities and schools to provide medical services and conduct academic exchanges and cultural activities, deepening the traditional friendship between China and relevant countries, according to the spokesperson. ■
