BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's investment applications between January and June rose 35 percent from a year earlier to a combined 458 billion baht (about 12.67 billion U.S. dollars), mainly due to expansion in target sectors, including electronics, electrical appliances, automobile and automotive parts, official data showed on Thursday.

During the first six months of 2024, the Southeast Asian country's overall investment applications jumped 64 percent compared to the previous year to 1,412 projects, of which 889 were foreign direct investments, indicating an 83 percent increase, according to the Board of Investment (BOI).

Continued growth in both the number of projects and investment value reflected economic potential and investor confidence in the kingdom as a safe and resilient production base, BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said in a statement.

Narit noted that as the global investment trend is expected to continue its focus on relocation and supply chain adjustments in the latter half of the year, the BOI will actively work on attracting target sectors and strengthening the nation's competitiveness in key areas.
