BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.46 percent to 2,901.95 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.32 percent lower at 8,493.1 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 627.21 billion yuan (about 87.9 billion U.S. dollars), down from 662.19 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares in the wind power facility and precious metal sectors respectively led the gains, while those in the online car-hailing sector suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.23 percent to close at 1,650.91 points Wednesday. ■
