BUENOS AIRES, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A first-half strike from Cristian Tarragona gave San Lorenzo a 1-0 away win over Gimnasia in Argentina's Primera Division on Tuesday.
Tarragona put his team ahead with a low finish into the bottom-left corner after his initial attempt was parried away by goalkeeper Nelson Insfran.
The visitors controlled most of the possession and completed more passes than their opponents but could only manage one shot on target for the night.
The result marked San Lorenzo's first victory of the campaign and lifted the Buenos Aires outfit to 22nd in the 28-team standings with five points from six matches. Gimnasia are ninth, four points behind leaders Huracan.
In other Primera Division matches on Tuesday, Independiente were held to a goalless home draw by Barracas Central, Newell's Old Boys also drew 0-0 at home to Independiente Rivadavia and Deportivo Riestra prevailed 2-0 at home to Argentinos Juniors. ■
