NEW DELHI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- A sailor went missing after a fire broke out aboard the Indian Navy's warship INS Brahmaputra in Mumbai dockyard, officials said Monday.

According to defense ministry officials, the warship was undergoing maintenance at the naval dockyard in Mumbai when it caught fire on Sunday evening.

"The fire was brought under control by the ship's crew with assistance of firefighters from ND-Mbi and other ships in harbor, by morning of 22 July 2024. Further, follow-on actions including sanitization checks for assessment of residual risk of fire were carried out," a statement from defense ministry said.

Officials said on Monday afternoon, the ship experienced severe listing to one side (port side).

"All personnel have been accounted for except one junior sailor, for whom the search is in progress," the ministry said.

Indian Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
